Self Portrait

Studio Art

People are the foundational inspiration for my artwork. Where they came from, who they are, and what their stories are; these are all things that influence me as an artist. It fascinates me how human beings walk around this world like open vessels, some empty and some overflowing with life, taking in the things this world has to offer. Depending on what each person absorbs or rejects, the individual is made unique and defined by the life she or he chooses to live. Culture, heritage, society, religion, gender, poverty, and government are various examples of external entities that orchestrate each person’s life story and identity.

I am a young woman who has the appearance and background of a South Korean, but I’ve completely adapted to the American culture. Because of who I am, I am naturally interested in incorporating women of different cultures in my work. I want to educate and raise awareness of the vast diversity of people and stories that live on this earth together. My artwork is a reflection of the questions that I have, the issues that I want to discuss, and the things that I appreciate. It is political, social, emotional, but most of all personal.
